Luminary Volunteers Go Above & Beyond!

It was a dark and stormy night indeed. The rain was coming down in buckets. If we were up north this would have qualified as a blizzard. The police were hired, auxiliary lighting in place and paid for, bands were on the way, food and beverages were ordered…so on with the show! The rain didn’t stop, but at about 5:15, rays of sunshine did appear. They were the volunteers arriving in their bright yellow t-shirts!

They came with Santa hats, smiles, good cheer, excellent voices for caroling, towels, slickers and flashing necklaces. They wiped down trolley seats, sang carols, passed out the glow sticks, laughed and had a great time. Once again Sanibel came through with a very special event for guests and residents alike.

On behalf of The Sanibel-Captiva Chamber administrative staff and myself, I want to extend a HUGE thank you to all who participated. This year you truly outdid yourselves and I’m positive guests will have wonderful stories to tell when they return home.

To all 62 volunteers and the Chamber administrative staff, I extend my deepest appreciation. What a wonderful group of people to work with;it takes more than a bit of rain and wind to dampen your holiday spirit!

Captiva’s Luminary

Saturday night on Captiva the rain stopped and the wind died down. Captiva definitely had the better evening. Rotary volunteers were available and willing to bag and set up as usual Saturday morning but the rain didn’t stop until late afternoon. Denice & John Beggs who spearheaded the Captiva volunteers very much appreciate John Carney and his group’s effort to assist.

Larry Northorp and his crew from Northorp Landscaping along with Jason & Jesse from Royal Shell Vacations pitched in at the last minute for Rotary filling and placing the bags along Andie Rossie Lane. Kiwanis Club, along with their families and friends lit the bags and the Lions took them down on Sunday. Santa & Mrs. Claus were in attendance and the participating businesses looked lovely and showed their holiday spirit by caroling, decorating for the season and overall good cheer!

With sincerest appreciation to all…those who volunteered, Santa & Mrs. Claus, those who opened their businesses to the public, the trolley drivers, police officers, and the many service groups who were ready and willing to assist as well as those who braved the weather and came out to shop and experience some good cheer. I wish all of you a very happy holiday season.

Good Tidings,

Chocolate Soap from Italy on Sanibel-Captiva

If your budget doesn't cover a trip to Italy this year, you can find a delectable indulgence right here on Sanibel. Escentials in Tahitian Gardens on Periwinkle Way, Sanibel, Florida carries some truly luxurious Nesti Danti Soaps that are made in Italy. There are three groups of this luxurious shea butter soap to choose from: chocolate, tropical fruit, and sensuous. All are very reasonably priced and attractively packaged. These soaps will spark lots of conversation in your guest bath or be a perfect hostess gift.

What caught my eye was the Orange Chocolate "bar". This large sized soap is made like a candy bar so it easily and neatly snaps into two good size soaps. Other varieties include Mint Chocolate, Mocha Cocoa Beans and Cocoa Beans. While they have a chocolate aroma, you don't smell like chocolate after you use the product, you just experience the luxury of a shea butter soap and all the softness you would expect. Cost is $10.95 per double bar.

If tropical fruits are more to your liking, there are adorable little Nesti Danti soap squares in a wide variety of "flavors". These are perfect little squares of shea butter indulgence in delicious tropical scents. These tropical gems run $8.95 each.

And if you are looking for a soap that will release your animal magnetism, you must
try the Animal Print bars. Again Nesti Danti wraps these very large shea butter soaps in attractive animal print wrappers. What's your mood? Choose from Alluring, Exuberant, or Sensual fragrances. These exquisite bars run $12.95.

Regardless of your "taste" you will find something that is sure to please. Find these and other luxury soaps and lotions at Escentials on Sanibel in the Tahitian Gardens shopping center.

Tropical Wines on Sanibel

Recently I discovered tropical wines. These wines are made from 100% fruit juice, absolutely no grapes involved. Initially I was skeptical. Remember Boones Farm from way back? Was I surprised! While they are very different from heavy, full bodied wines, they are truly a summer delight. On a hot day very chilled, you will be amazed at how refreshing they are.

If you like wine but experience headaches, fruit wines may be your answer. Tanins and/or sulfates usually cause headaches. Tropical Wines are tanin free and contain few if any sulfates. The flavors are clean and crisp and the wines are sweetened by the sugar in the fruits.

These tropical wines are made from 100% Florida citrus & berries and have colorful names such as Mango Mama, Hurricane Class 5 and Sparkling Florida Grapefruit to name a few. To find out more visit Sanibel Tropical Wines online.
